Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car VG

Here is a Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car from 1985. This is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper. It features a set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and "tamp" down the ballast rock along the track. The tamping action is controlled by track activators. When the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. There is some rust on some of the metal trim pieces and the track activators. There are a few scratches and nicks along the train. Overall this train is in excellent condition and shows light signs of use. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included.
